Build a Custom Kindle Book or PDF from Technical Articles
The Book Builder turns any selection of chapters from The Big Learn into a single ebook. Choose the articles that match what you are studying — a few chapters on TLS, the whole authentication series, a mix of API gateway and Kubernetes material — and export them as an EPUB for your Kindle or as a PDF for printing and annotating.
The content comes from each article's own source, not from a screenshot of the page, so the exported book keeps its headings, tables, diagrams and glossary. Nothing is uploaded: the file is assembled locally in your browser and downloaded straight to your device.
Instructions
How to build your book
Type part of a title in the search box — "TLS", "OAuth", "Cosmos DB" — and the matching chapters appear with their learning path and language. Click "Add" on each one you want. Added chapters show up in the "Your book" list on the right, where you can move them up or down or remove them. When the list reads the way you want the book to read, give it a title and choose a format.
Kindle (EPUB) or PDF
"Export for Kindle" produces a reflowable EPUB tuned for e-ink: monochrome text, artwork flattened over white, wide tables rebroken so they fit a 6-inch screen, and both a modern navigation document and the older NCX index. Amazon's Send to Kindle accepts EPUB and converts it on delivery. "Download PDF" produces an A4 book with a branded cover, a table of contents with page numbers, each chapter opening on its own page and a running footer carrying the page count.
Languages
The catalogue covers every language a chapter is published in. You can mix languages in one book if you want to; the file is tagged with the language of the first chapter, and the builder tells you when your selection is mixed.
Glossary
Chapters that define technical terms contribute them to a glossary at the end of the book, merged across every chapter you selected and deduplicated. In the EPUB, the first occurrence of each term links to its entry; in the PDF, the glossary keeps the terms the selected chapters actually use, so it stays a reference rather than a dictionary.
Privacy
Everything runs in your browser. The chapters are already part of the site, and the EPUB and PDF are assembled locally with JSZip and pdf-lib. No selection, title or file is sent to a server.
EPUB and PDF: which one to pick
EPUB is a reflowable format: the text has no fixed page, so the reader decides the type size and the device decides where lines break. That is what makes it right for e-readers and phones, and it is the format Kindle converts from. PDF is the opposite — it fixes the page, which is what you want when the book will be printed, annotated on a tablet, or shared with someone who must see exactly the same layout you do.
For studying, many readers use both: the EPUB on a Kindle for reading through a track end to end, and the PDF for the chapters they want to mark up. Building both from the same selection takes one extra click, and the two files carry exactly the same content.
